Christine's
Story "I can't have a baby now"
I was 13 years old when I had
my first abortion. At the time I wanted to have the baby. Abortion was not something
that I wanted to do. My mother and the boy who got me pregnant decided it was
the best thing for me to do and convinced me to get an abortion. It was a hard
decision to make but probably the best one. My
second abortion occurred when I was 16, again I didn't want the abortion but there
was no way I could take care of the baby on my own. My third and final abortion
was when I was 19, I was in an extremely abusive situation with no way out at
the time. The best thing for the baby and myself was to terminate the pregnancy.
If your asking
yourself if I used protection the answer
is yes. Two of the pregnancies occurred while I was on the
pill. I
am now 27 years old and all I want now is to have a baby. The only problem is,
I can't have children now. Since I had the abortions I was diagnosed with a disease
called " Endometriosis" There is no cure for it. Having this disease
makes it nearly impossible to have children. The Doctors are not positive how
this disease comes about, but abortions is one of their theories. My
advice to any one who is thinking about having an abortion, is to think again,
long and hard, because we do reap what we sew, and this might be your only chance
to have a baby. I'm not against abortion but not being able to
have children has now made me regret my actions and has made me a very bitter
woman. Christine,
now childless April 1998

Note: Statistical medical evidence shows having one or several abortions
causes no problems with future pregnancy, delivery, or fertility.
