Abortion Question:
Is surgical abortion my only option?
Question:What other ways, besides going to a clinic, will kill the baby? (Sorry I know kill is such a harsh word to use but I couldn't think of another word.)
Response: There are ways to cause a miscarriage, but none of them are reliable, and many are extremely dangerous to the woman.
In the days before abortion was legal, woman would try anything to end the pregnancy in its early stages.
There are some traditional herbs which work early in pregnancy, but I cannot recommend them because they can be very dangerous. Before abortion was legalized in the US, menstrual extraction was invented, but it only worked very early in pregnancy.
Today, a modern abortion clinic is the most accessible, easiest and safest way to end a pregnancy in the USA. Today clinics have several new options for early pregnancy termination. For abortion less than 7 weeks since the last menstrual period (LMP, there are new non-surgical abortion options. You can get a Medical Abortion with Mifepristone at selected clinics doing research studies.
Medical Abortion with Methotrexate alone or in combination with other drugs is another non-surgical option. Methotrexate, or MTX, is given by injection at the clinic and the woman passes the fetal tissue within 2-6 weeks.
Yet another early abortion option is Manual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA). It is available up to 6 weeks since last menstrual period. The doctor uses a hand-held syringe which creates suction without using an electrical machinery.
